4 adorable keepsakes made with baby outfits that are striped

I receive all kinds of fabrics to make keepsakes with, and all kinds of patterns. Some are more challenging than others, and all of them turn out to be true gems of artworks to proudly hang in your home. Here are 4 adorable keepsakes made with striped fabrics.

  1. Cashel and Carrick’s sky and sea adventure

Cashel and Carrick's mom received a keepsake sibling bundle as a gift for Mother's day, but she wanted it and was expecting it; it was not a surprise, as is the case with a lot of the custom keepsakes and vouchers.

It's a wonderful Mother's day gift: a reminder of your children's baby days on the day that honors you as a super mama.

Cashel is the big brother and is getting a hot air balloon, and Carrick, the little brother, is getting a sailboat! Both outfits sent to me were striped pajamas. Stripes are fun to work with; the possibilities of layouts are endless.

These pajamas are so cute and soft, and the photos of those babies in them are totally delightful! I love working on sibling keepsakes.

Carrick’s pajama had a “Little Brother” embroidery on it, but it was too big to fit on the sailboat. I could have included some of the embroidery even if it wouldn’t be a complete word—in those cases I ask the client. Sometimes the graphics on the onesies are an inside joke with the family, or perhaps a saying that they repeat among themselves, and has a special meaning, so including it is necessary. In this case, however, the words weren’t important for the boy’s mom, so I opted for a cleaner look without other colors or partial letters.

Here is what I did with Cashel and Carrick's pajamas:

They are such handsome little boys! Seeing the photos of the children wearing the clothes I am working with gives me a very brief glimpse of their unique personalities. I love to think about that when I work on their keepsakes. It’s like I know them a little bit.

Mom settled for their names’ initials on their keepsakes, without adding their first names. The little “C” appears on the basket of the hot air balloon and the flag of the sailboat. Subtle!

These keepsakes ended up in the open space between bedrooms, which I love because they can be seen and enjoyed more often. The client was quite pleased as she communicated by email:

I said it on Instagram, and I will say it again: I love it when my clients cry, and I can't think of a better reaction about my work :)

[She then ordered a bridal keepsake for herself! :) It’s absolutely gorgeous.]

2. Graham’s newborn blanket is now a cute little kite!

This one was a surprise gift from my client to his wife, Graham’s mom. Graham’s dad sneaked his newborn baby blanket and sent it to me after he ordered the hot air balloon keepsake. He was excited. This is a gift to indeed be excited about!

This is Graham’s hospital blanket, an item that’s quite popular for keepsakes, understandably!

Unless, of course, you are on the side of parents who are completely done and tired of these ancient hospital blankets—but if you’re on the side who really thinks they’re sweet because they’ve been around for so long, then you probably kept your babies’ blankets too. Have you?

This is one of the less common ones though, with sweet subtle stripes that are thinner and further apart than the more common (US) hospital blankets.

As you can see, the little kite has an actual structure crafted with wooden sticks! Even though it doesn’t show, it is there, for good vibes. All the Pokidots keepsakes are infused with good vibes, from positive messages that can’t be accessed, to little joyful details. Only the artist knows :)

Graham’s keepsake turned out to be extra gorgeous. Also, this adorable little face, screaming his little heart out is so precious.

Most importantly, his mom was delighted too:

“My wife absolutely loved Graham’s keepsake. She said this is the best gift anyone has ever given her :) Thank you!"

3. Yasma’s gorgeous fashion keepsake

Yasma’s mom was one of my first clients, and she is also a friend. I’ve known Yasma since she was 4 years old, and drew her when she was five, like I imagined she might look like when she is a grown-up. This is how the Fashion keepsakes with custom illustration are done!

Yasma’s mom gave me her little dress that she had kept from Yasma’s first birthday. It’s incredibly cute and I couldn’t wait to get to work!

Looking at Yasma’s features when she was 5, I drew her like I visualized in my mind she may look like as an adult. I am pleased to report that she is 11 years old now, and she is looking a lot like her illustration from 6 years ago! Her hair is long and curly though, but if she blow-dries it straight, chances are high that she would look a lot like this!

I added subtle lines of paint on the illustration after finishing the work, that extend the stripes on the dress. I love the subtlety of this. I don’t add paint often to keepsakes, but this one was calling for something like this and I think it turned out quite beautiful.

If you look really closely, you will see something at the side of the bridge of her nose, on the illustration. Yasma was born with tiny veins at this spot near her eye, that are shaped like a little heart. It’s incredible, and it’s still there as she is growing. Obviously, this is something absolutely precious to her mom, and I included it in her illustration. It works perfectly with the color scheme as well, since the heart-shaped veins are a soft blue under her skin.

There’s a peek of tulle under the dress, with another layer of the dress fabric.

I love this beautiful keepsake. The ones I create for people I know and love have an extra special place in my work.

Yasma’s mom agreed, and here is what she shared for Pokidots readers:

"It takes sensitivity, attention to detail, talent, creativity, and lots love to make these keepsakes. Louma embodies all these qualities which makes her the perfect artist to create these personalized pieces of art. Handling Yasma's baby clothes is like handling our most precious memories, and Louma did it with such grace and enthusiasm. We LOVE our keepsake and we are very grateful for her.”
